Eclair update on HTC Hero
New rumours on HTC Hero Android 2.1 Update; march could be the official month.
On Meteor forum (an Irish mobile operator) an Administrator said on 19th January:
“We’ve been in contact with HTC and they have said that version 2.0 will be available in and around March of this year. HTC sense UI will be tightly integrated with Android 2.0, as with other versions of the software. Because of this new versions of the software take a while to develop. As for 2.1 this would also need to be developed and there is no update on this.”
Right now I’m really disappointed with HTC, they don’t give any official communicate and the release date seems to be a mirage; custom Eclair ROMs have a great stability and velocity and no Sense UI is really usable.

Hi everybody,
I was wondering if I have to wait for HTC official firmware update for Hero or install a custom ROM in order to use the new Eclair Android System and I choose to install a new custom ROM, the AOSP Eclair 2.1.
What is AOSP Eclair 2.1?
The Android Open Source Project (AOSP) is the public, open-source repository used by Google and phone carriers and manufacturer’s to power their phones. It lags significantly behind the ‘private’ repository used by those companies, but the updates do come eventually. (source Modaco)
In this post I would like to give you a step by step guide to install AOSP Eclair 2.1 on a ‘virgin’ HTC Hero no brand. I’m not responsible for any damage or malfunction on your device, go ahead is only your choice.

As reported by android.com.pl seems that HT planned to push out the new HTC Hero 2.1 on February 15th
“Just as the topic is clear, has always been neglected by the owners of Hero HTC finally get an update. Why so late? Because it will not be updated for the Android 2.0 but straight to 2.1. Between 15 and 17 February, the update will be available for HTC Hero – this update is only for European Markets. We only know that for sure be delayed.
Information is sourced directly from HTC Poland, and therefore should be checked.”
Could be this the G-Day for Hero owners? I didn’t update right now with a cooked ROM because I didn’t find the right one… HTC c’mon…

Intro
This is the continuation of the previous blog How many lines of custom ABAP code are inside your system? published at the beginning of 2009 by Sergio Ferrari, my colleague and SAP Mentor.
The SLOC, the number of line of ABAP code of custom objects, is one of the most interesting indicators provided during a software assessment as described here.
In this new weblog I am going to share with the great SDN community the new version of the ABAP ZSDN_SIMPLE_ABAP_SLOC_COUNT, developed at night, during the few hours of free time.
Let me summarize briefly the improvements and extensions that this new version introduces.

This short guide allows you to install SAP GUI Java on linux sistem (I tested on Squeeze/Testing):
- Java Runtime Environment installed on your system.
On Debian Squeeze and Ubuntu Koala I suggest you to use Sun Java JRE
$ sudo aptitude install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin sun-java6-fonts
check your version using
$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_16"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_16-b01)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 14.2-b01, mixed mode)
- Download SAPGUI
ftp://ftp.sap.com/pub/sapgui/java/ (anonymous login)
https://service.sap.com/sapgui-java (OSS user and pass)
currently rev10 is available PlatinGUI-Linux-710R10.jar
- In the downloaded folder, execute
$ java -jar PlatinGUI-Linux-710R10.jar
in Other section of Gnome menu now you will have the SAP GUI shortcut.
- Add a new system connection
At SAP Logon select New->Advanced and insertconn=/H/url.to.sap.system/S/32xxinstead of xx insert the system number.
From command line you can execute:
~/SAPClients/SAPGUI7.00/bin$ ./sapgui /H/url.to.sap.system/S/32xx
Next, SAP Gui using wine…

The Beginning…
The blog posted by Kevin Wilson a few days ago about the chance to modify the content of SAP tables using the SE16N transaction reminded me the importance of properly managing these tasks in a productive environment:
- System settings (e.g. SCC4/SE06)
- Permissions to perform certain actions and / or transactions.
Just to stay on the subject, I would like to share with the great SDN community a pearl which is based upon one of the peculiarities introduced by the new ABAP debugger.
My colleague Sandro Garofano (he’s really a PI Guru) asked me: <<Hey Andrea, can you change the variable SY-UNAME while debugging?>>
Knowing the classic debugger and imagining to have the same behavior even with the new one, I answered with no doubt: <<Absolutely NOT!>>
Sandro then closed the conversation by adding: <<… Anyway, we did a test; if you change the content of the system variable sy-uname, the new debugger maintains the value … Try it!>>

Some days ago my notebook partition table was corrupted, something strange happened.
Nothing seemed to be possible: GParted couldn’t see any partition, Linux recovery couldn’t access to disk and also ultimate boot CD tools couldn’t see nothing… Only a blank disk!
Due job urgency, I was obliged to reinstall rapidly Debian squeeze. I was sure that everything would be unrecoverable.
Today I tried to do the impossible: recover my old data after repartitioning and formatting.
After some analysis I choose TestDisk.

Hi guys,
I have updated the activities report and corrected a minor (or not such a minor) bug.
Previously the report used to submit numbers with dot as decimal separator. However, the web time report accepts comma as decimal separator. So, make sure you sent in previous uploads numbers decimals and not hundreds.
Ivan suggested that I added the functionality to fill in the selected rows with some same data. This is handy if you worked the whole month on just one project. Now, you do not have to fill in each single row of data with the same project name. You just select the rows, find the project combo box in the table under the rows section and choose the project. All the selected rows will obtain the value of the selected project.
To know more about the application and to download it follow this link:

Feel free to contact me in case of troubles, difficulties or found bugs.
