Hi everybody,

today I’ve updated the time and expense Excel and reports for filling in the online reports automatically. Even though they are still in Beta version you can freely use them as I do for already a year. :)

The primary modifications are:

  • when opening any of these reports you will find a Techedge menu under which there will appear Time report or Expenses report submenus
  • Slightly improved error management (better don’t do any errors in filling in your reports, don’t forget fields, don’t put text in numeri fields; but if you do at least the application will not crush and you will probably be able to continue your work with it)

There are some usage suggestions:

  • use Excel 2007, I didn’t test the solution under Excel 2003, though in previous releases I optimized it for the use with Excel 2003 as well (in Excel 2003 I turned off the support of automated filtering due to its complexity in respect to Excel 2007)
  • try to avoid opening the two reports simultaneously because this may confuse you and you may get unexpected results :)
  • I always fill in my time report first; since I don’t have many expenses and they are usually homogeneous I use the VLOOKUP function based on date in my expenses report to copy all the relevant data (project,  sometimes comments…)
  • to spread the formula use column fill, avoid overwriting different cells since project and project types columns are validated and you’d better keep that validation active in order not to insert irrelevant project names
  • expenses report allows you to generate the calendar duplicating each day n times (check Settings sheet and Days number factor cell); by default I put two, personally I use one; anyway you can phisically delete or add rows to add supplementary records
  • the work sheet is only one – FillExpReport or FillTimeReport
  • when the reports are uploaded and the month is over you can copy the contents of report to the relevant month sheet to maintain the history in Excel and consequently to be absolutely fast and flexible in responding to how much you worked and spent k months ago ;)
  • the reports are in beta versions so if you have any considerations about the improvements, any suggestions, feedbacks – everything like that is welcomed ;)

The Excel reports are available at:

ExpensesReport_Example.zip and

TimeReport_Example II.zip

Enjoy! :)

Contact me freely if you have any suggestions.

Best wishes,

Valera :)
