To buzz or not to buzz?
Yesterday, 9th February 2010, Google released its news social application Google Buzz.
What is Google Buzz? It is a kind of Twitter with some Wave and Facebook features ready for Mobile
The idea seems to be really good, better that Wave, because it is more compatible to our current habits and needs.
Google defined five key features:
- Auto-following
- Rich, fast sharing experience
- Public and private sharing
- Inbox integration
- Just the good stuff
What are the pro and contra?
Positive impressions:
- Really intuitive
- No setup needed
- Mobile concept design
- Completely integrated with Google apps like GMail, Maps, Picasa and Reader
Negative impressions:
- Usable only from a GMail Account (Twitter and Facebook are not provider dependent)
- Public Buzz share your location to everyone (Privacy compromised)
- On mobile it continues to retrieve GPS position and it causes battery drain
- Anyone can follow your Buzz, I didn’t see any authorization request
I’m really impressed about Buzz as a Google addicted, I hope that with social instrument will be a success. Many people identify Buzz as a competitor of Facebook; I don’t think so, they look really different:
Facebook has may third party add-on that will never be a part of Google products, moreover Buzz has the advantage to be fully integrated in Google Apps World and it is usage could became more productive than a simple status updating system. I’m imagining an integration between Buzz and Google Docs like wave does…
What are your impressions?
