Configure and Connect Android to Fonera through OpenVPN
In this blog I would give you a guide in order to successfully connect your Android 2.1 device with Fonera 2.0n.
What you need:
- Fonera 2.0n updated to the last firmware 2.3.6.0 Fonera 2.3.6.0 r1665
- Android rooted device (i used 2.1 but every previous release should work)
Let’s start to configure first our Fonera in order to activate OpenVPN.
- First of all from Fonera pannel activate OpenVPN (Dashboard >> Settings >> OpenVPN) and generate a new key set. This could take up to 10 minutes.
- In the meantime if you have a dynamic DNS and you don’t have an account on dyndns.org create a new free account. Dyndns free.
- Configure your Fonera in order to login automatically on dyndns.org (Dashboard >> Settings >> DDNS).
- If you are behind a router/NAT configure port forwarding to your fonera. Allow all connections on port 1194 (default OpenVPN port). This depends on your router config panel.
- Your openVPN key should be created now, go to OpenVPN console on your Fonera and add a new client host, once it is created create a new configuration file by clicking “Generating Keys”. You can also configure auth for each connection allowing the access to your entire network.
- Configuration of Fonera is finished and your pannel shoul be like this.

Now configure our Android device.
- Install OpenVPN Installer from market
- Install OpenVPN Settings from market
- Connect your Android device on USB and copy configuration file generated by Fonera on step 5.
adb push \home\<user>\<path to unzipped files>\ /sdcard/openvpn/ - Launch OpenVPN Settings and it should read automatically your ovpn file configuration file.
- Check the ovpn file and connect to your Fonera!

It is really simple but I want to share with you my experience.
