In this new blog I’ll give a quick guide in order to install a fully working and stable Android Froyo on your old (as HTC suppose  ) HTC Hero.

As always, I’m not responsible for any damage that could occur to your device. This guide is for HTC Hero only, not the Sprint Hero.

Prerequisites

  1. HTC Hero is rooted successfully, if not follow first 3 steps reported in my previous blog How to install Eclair 2.1 on HTC Hero.
  2. Amon Ra is successfully updated to the latest release, follow these two blog posts to get some instructions

Let’s Go

I like very much the work of TeamVillain with Android Eclair so I choose their Froyo ROM for my HTC Hero. The current latest version is FroydVillan 1.5, you can check if any new release is available at FroydVillain.

  1. Download you FroydVillan ROM to you PC
  2. Open the shell and execute from android tools directory (in this example I use Windows XP command line)
    C:\android-sdk\tools>adb remount
    C:\android-sdk\tools>adb push "C:\Documents and Settings\Ivan\My Documents\Downloads\FroydVillain-1.5.0-release-signed.zip" /sdcard/

    Android Froyo

  3. You may need also to partitioning your SD Card in order to use apps2SD, please refers to this blog How to manually partition your SD card for Android Apps2SD.
  4. Shut down your phone and turning on pressing Home and Power button until Android System Recovery appears.
  5. A full wipe is requested, select “Wipe” from the menu and then wipe data/factory reset, cache, davil-cache and SD partition
  6. Press back and choose  ”Flash zip from sdcard” and select the zip already downloaded.
  7. Wait few minutes and when finished press back and reboot your phone. Here it is, your fully working Froyo Android ROM on your HTC Hero.
