abap2gapps: is your ABAP ready for the Google cloud?

2

Ladies and Gentleman did you ever thought to use you old ABAP system to use modern cloud services?

Last year SAP Mentor Uwe Fetzer (@se38) published his Twibap, a simple Twitter API to use in order to read and post Tweets on Twitter, today I will present you abap2gapps an API prototype in order to interact basically with all Google services that use new OAuth2 authentication.

abap2gapps uses API provided by another Code Exchange project, that we release today, OAuth2.

Wait a moment, what is OAuth2?

You can’t answer the question; you should read this blog OAuth2: Next generation authentication API

OAuth2: Next generation authentication API

0

OAuth2 is the new Code Exchange project that allows you to authenticate on a web based service provider like Google, Facebook, Microsoft and Foursquare using the OAuth 2.0 protocol.

OAuth 2.0 is the next evolution of the OAuth protocol and is not backward compatible with OAuth 1.0. OAuth 2.0 focuses on client developer simplicity while providing specific authorization flows for web applications, desktop applications, mobile phones, and living room devices. (Wikipedia)

Most of popular on line services like Google, Facebook and Microsoft are already providing access to their cloud using this protocol.

SCNotties 2011 submission

0

SAP TechEd is close and the SCNotties contest began.

Many members of SAP Community produce a 30 second (more or less) video introducing themselves and fight for the ambitious SCNotty trophy! See last year SCN Video Award.

“SCNotties is the award show for the best of the worst media from the SAP community. And when we say best, we mean the cheesiest. B Movies are our role model.” (@scnotties info profile)

Submit you presentation video in the relative section on SCN Wiki: Las Vegas, Madrid or Bangalore. We want some fun!

Submission deadline:

  • Las Vegas September, 7 2011
  • Bangalore September, 30 2011
  • Madrid October, 31 2011

This is my submission, and as Warner Bros always says “That’s all folks!”

It’s true, I’m an SAP Mentor

0

Finally I have an internet connection and the possibility to publish this post, well I should say “the Post”, because this is the most important post that I have ever written.

On 16th August I proudly joined into the SAP Mentor Wolfpack. Read the official blog post on SDN.

Do you know who is an SAP Mentor?

This is the definition given on SAP Mentor official wiki

SAP Mentors are the top community influencers of the SAP Ecosystem. Most of the ~100 mentors work for customers or partners of SAP. All of them are hands-on experts of an SAP product or service, as well as excellent champions of community-driven projects.

  • Hands-on expert in an SAP product or service
  • Collaborative attitude
  • Good communicator
  • Preferably working at a partner or customer of SAP
  • Interested in improving products and services of SAP as well as the relationship of SAP with its customers, partners and prospects
  • Proactive engagement

If you don’t hit all 6 points, you can compensate by being exceptional in the other 5.

It’s an honor to be awarded with such significant acknowledgment an I will do my best to deserve it. For sure now I have a incredible motivation to continue my activities on SAP and beyond.

I love my lemon!

Finally I found some time in order to write this blog and tell you guys my adventure on the road to SAP Inside Track in Chicago. I said adventure, it was not a mistake, it was really a time battle to be on time for my presentation.

The journey

Let start from the beginning, I planned to depart from Milan Italy on early morning of 14th July in order to arrive in Chicago at 2 AM of the same day and have the possibility to take my rest before the event.
But this is what I planned; unfortunately my journey was not so easy.
